Libertarianz Party leader Richard McGrath today urged anyone who objects to the coercive nature of the five-yearly census to destroy their papers.

“Members of my party up and down New Zealand will be burning, shredding, defacing or ignoring the documents sent out by Statistics NZ, as would be their undisputed right in a free country.”

“If the Bill of Rights Act 1990 had any teeth, it would protect those who don’t wish to complete their census forms from police harrassment and prosecution. Article 14 of the act states: ‘Everyone has the right to freedom of expression, including the freedom to seek, receive and impart information and opinions of any kind in any form.’ This includes the right to remain silent and to refrain from writing.”

“A lot of New Zealanders are concerned about where the information in these forms will end up, and whether it is necessary to collect the information in the first place.”

“And many are worried that the government is paying lip service to its role as the defender of basic individual rights such as free speech and expression. This will be a test as to whether the Bill of Rights offers real protection or is a sham.”

“The Children’s Commissioner and his department have siphoned away millions of taxpayer dollars and come no closer to understanding the nature of poverty. Instead, their ideas maintain and increase poverty levels via government interference.” This is from Peter Osborne, the Libertarianz spokesman for social welfare today. “We must surely realise by now that government can never stop poverty and in fact is the greatest single cause of it today.”

“Regardless of how it is dressed up we should understand that government regulation is a systematic method of removing opportunity and replacing it with restriction. It is a price we pay for the illusion of safety and security. When we couple this with the sheer drain of financial resources that our government extracts from each of us, we can begin to see the suffocation of life that most of us feel but cannot articulate.

Mr Osborne says, “Our lives are being engineered for us from the day we enter a government factory school until the day we die. It is hardly any wonder we continue to vote the way we do. And still we want our government to tackle the child poverty issue. But remember: by doing so, we are giving government what it wants; an opportunity to reach further into our pockets and into our lives.”

Osborne concludes, “Contrary to the Children’s Commissioner’s world view, there is a silver bullet for child poverty but it would prove fatal to his job and his ministry. Libertarianz would reduce government to 3 core areas (police, defence, justice) and remove all other excuses to interfere in the lives of New Zealanders. We understand that the world of finance is not a system but is instead a free-wheeling vehicle of trade and free interaction. To attempt to control its flow and value is to quietly and slowly poison your own citizenry. The fact that this is not widely understood is testament to our factory schools.”

Libertarianz leader Richard McGrath welcomes the High Court decision vindicating nude jogger Andrew Pointon.

“Andrew has hailed this as a victory for libertarians, and I agree. This opens the door for increased freedom of speech and expression, as guaranteed in our Bill of Rights.”

However McGrath believes the mainstream media, and possibly Justice Paul Heath, have omitted to mention a crucial factor in the decision over the legality of nude jogging.

“No mention was made in the mainstream media of context: on precisely whose property the nude jogging may or may not occur. Whoever owns the property makes the rules, end of story.”

“When property is privately owned, those using it need to adhere to the wishes of the owner.”

“The issue becomes less clear when the state owns a forest or other land where people can roam. In that case, individual freedom of expression should apply and nudity should be permitted. The litmus test is whether this causes objective harm to others, with whom the burden of proof should lie in any claim for damages.”

“Anyone who may be offended as Mr Pointon swings by should simply avert their eyes.”

Libertarianz Party leader Richard McGrath applauded the suggestion by Salvation Army spokesman Campbell Roberts that taxes for lower incomes be abolished.

“Our policy at the last election was to make the first $50,000 of income tax-free, thus easing the burden on both lower and middle income families.”

However he disputes the suggestion from Major Roberts that taxes on the highest earning New Zealanders be increased. “Tax relief for low and middle income earners should be funded by reining in the out of control spending practiced by Labour- and National-led governments. It is pointless taxing high earners more when failed companies are still being bailed out via corporate welfare instead of being liquidated.”

McGrath pointed to a perceived inconsistency in the Salvation Army’s position on minimum wage laws.

“Their comments on raising pay rates at the bottom end by government decree are somewhat strange, coming from an outfit that uses unpaid volunteer labour, and enjoy charitable organisation status.”

In response to New Zealand First’s call for a rent freeze in Christchurch to help low income families, Libertarianz Leader Richard McGrath says the last thing Christchurch needs is more government interference. “The Christchurch recovery continues at a snail’s pace … Read more

In response to New Zealand First’s call for a rent freeze in Christchurch to help low income families, Libertarianz Leader Richard McGrath says the last thing Christchurch needs is more government interference. “The Christchurch recovery continues at a snail’s pace under the direction of Government Ministers. Even more restrictive regulations being enacted in Christchurch are the last thing victims of the earthquake need.”

Richard McGrath says that what Christchurch’s residents and business people need is less Government to make living more affordable and recovery faster. “I’m calling on Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee to use his special powers granted by Parliament to declare Christchurch a free enterprise zone. For the next five years residents and businesses based within the Christchurch area should be completely exempt from income tax in order to enable them to sort out their own lives and finally clean up the ruins of their battered city.”

“Over two years since the first earthquake and where is Christchurch now? Growth is still stunted by skills shortages while national unemployment hovers near eight percent. Parts of the city are still in ruins while developers are hamstrung by planning rules and obstructive politicians. High rents, partly the result of a housing shortage caused by excessive regulation, make life a struggle for lower and middle class families.”

“A three year exemption from income tax for Christchurch residents and business owners will make Christchurch attractive for families, workers, housing developers and businesses alike. It will lead to a quick recovery and booming economy in the region. It will reduce the financial risk and provide a real incentive for individuals and capital to flood into the region. A natural disaster zone doesn’t need politicians and bureaucracy, it needs capital, workers and free enterprise.”

“The Green Party’s call for the government to print money, hiding behind the term ‘Quantitative Easing’, would be laughable were it not so dangerous,” declared Luke Howison, Libertarianz Finance Spokesman, today. “Artificially expanding the money supply decreases the value of each dollar we own, diluting savings – the last thing we need after the global financial crisis.”

“Furthermore, this kind of deep government distortion of the most basic workings of the economy is what caused the current precarious financial situation in the first place. Quantitative Easing is the policy equivalent of trying to avoid a hangover by cracking open another bottle of whiskey.”

“That the Greens would call for such a short-sighted and destructive action demonstrates their total lack of economic nous. In conjunction with their empty election promise that unemployment can be solved by creating ‘Green Jobs’, the Greens have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have no clue how to handle an economy. Green voters who wish to protect the environment should remember that only a healthy free-market economy can create enough wealth to pay for first-world luxuries like national parks or electric cars.”

“The Libertarianz party would dismantle the Reserve Bank and allow a free monetary market, thereby eliminating the boom-bust business cycles caused by government interference in the market. With a stable economy and drastically lower tax rates, New Zealand really could be the South Pacific paradise we portray in tourist brochures.”

Libertarianz Leader Richard McGrath is delighted to welcome Auckland City Councillor Dick Quax as a feature speaker at Liberty Conference this Saturday in Auckland. “Mr. Quax is one of the few individuals on Auckland City Council who resist total socialist subjugation of ratepayers and we are very glad that he has chosen to make a contribution to our conference.”

“We are especially appreciative that Mr. Quax has agreed to address our conference at such short notice as Cameron Slater sadly has withdrawn following the death of his mother. Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with Cameron and his family at this difficult time.”

Dick Quax, a two time Olympic medallist, is one of two councillors in the Howick ward. Mr. McGrath says “Following the launch of Auckland’s next local body political party, it is important that we identify those councillors who are already consistently opposing the big government council majority and work with them to ensure the defeat of the left in 2013. Our movement must ensure we don’t split the small government vote but instead grow further the number of councillors committed to a reduction in rates, regulations and spending.

Other feature speakers on the day include cannabis legalisation advocate Dakta Green and long-time stalwart of freedom, journalist Lindsay Perigo.

Liberty Conference 2012 is being held by the Libertarianz Party to examine the re-brand and launch of a new liberal movement in New Zealand. It is this Saturday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Auckland. To be part of creating political history, register for the conference at www.libertarianz.org.nz/conference-2012/

“AV World owner Paul Halliwell’s struggle with council bureaucrats over signage on his business demonstrates quite aptly the need for a new political party in local body politics,” said Libertarianz Leader Richard McGrath, three days before the party holds Liberty Conference 2012.

Paul Halliwell has been told he must remove his $6000 sign advertising his business from the premises because a district plan bans such signs in ‘character areas.’ While he is able to apply for dispensation at a cost of $750, a council compliance officer told him not to bother as he would be “wasting the fee.”

“Our current council seems to be unanimous in its support for using heritage and character regulation to strangle small business in Auckland. Whether our representatives be C&R, Independent or City Vision, there is no political grouping in Auckland politics saying that the Council needs to stop using these nit-picking rules to make running a business more difficult than it needs to be. This Saturday, there is going to be a political game changer in Auckland and around the country as Liberty Conference 2012 discusses the launch of a new local body party on a nationwide scale.”

“Whatever form the new local body party ends up taking, I am confident that it will be the sort of vehicle which defends the right of small businessmen to make a living for themselves. It will be a party which reduces rates and compliance costs. It will support a council that respects the right of property owners to enjoy proper ownership of their premises, rather than one which enables community busybodies to crush innovation and enterprise.”

“For hard working entrepreneurs like Paul Halliwell, relief is in sight!”

If you wish to be part of the creation of a new liberal local body political party, then make sure you attend Liberty Conference 2012 on Saturday October 6 from 9am at Crowne Plaza Hotel Auckland. Tickets are available from www.libertarianz.org.nz/conference-2012/

Libertarianz President Shane Pleasance today released the line up of feature speakers for Liberty Conference 2012, being held at Crowne Plaza Hotel on Albert Street, Auckland, October 6. Mr. Pleasance said today, “Our fantastic feature of Conference speakers guarantees that Liberty Conference will not only be historic politically but also thoroughly entertaining!”

Following the President’s and Leader’s addresses in the morning, we will be featuring cannabis law reform advocate Dakta Green. Mr. Green has fought for individual liberty for many years and faced direct oppression by Government drug warriors as a result. In 2008, Dakta opened the Daktory, a cannabis dispensary and was subsequently arrested. In June 2011, he was sentenced to 23 months in prison for cannabis supply. Shane Pleasance says, “We are delighted that Dakta has agreed to speak at Liberty Conference and hope he will continue to be a major feature in the future of the pro-liberty movement.”

In the middle of the day, the stage will go to one of New Zealand’s foremost advocates of liberty, Lindsay Perigo. Mr. Perigo was the first leader of the Libertarianz party and led it to its best result in 1999. He was also editor of Free Radical magazine and host of Radio Pacific’s Politically Incorrect Show from 1996 to 2001. In the last decade Lindsay has worked as a political editor for Radio Live and Prime Television. More recently he hosted a interview television show on Stratos before working for the Act Party, writing Don Brash’s infamous cannabis speech. “Lindsay Perigo has been a bastion of the liberty movement for decades and it is an honour to have him address Liberty Conference 2012.”

Prior to the conference workshop on the forming of a new local body political party, the conference will be addressed by Cameron Slater, notorious blogger of Whale Oil. Slater has had a history of holding political and judicial personalities to account, especially Winston Peters and Trevor Mallard. Most recently he has set his sights on Len Brown and the Auckland City Council. “Cameron is one of those who have identified the immediate need for a new local level political party in Auckland and we are very keen to hear his vision for how the Super City Council should operate.”

Liberty Conference 2012 will be the launching pad for new liberal movements in New Zealand at both national and local body level. To be part of political history, register to attend and make submissions at www.libertarianz.org.nz/conference-2012/

Libertarianz Party leader Richard McGrath today defended the right of Hone Harawira to refer to National Party MPs with Maori ancestry as “house niggers”.

“Mr Harawira is entitled to call any person whatever he likes, provided he doesn’t defame or attempt to coerce anyone by doing so,” McGrath said.

“I think his choice of words might cause offence to some listeners – however, despite what the Race Relations Commissar and others might think, there is no inherent right to sail through life and never be offended by what others say.”

“My party doesn’t have much time for Mr Harawira and the Mana Party’s race-based policies. Nor do we have time for anyone who tries to limit free speech.”

“Whether someone is a coon – or for that matter a curry-muncher, a cheeky darkie, a guinea greaseball, wetback, a Christ-killing hymie, a spook, spearchucker, camel jockey, raghead or tar baby, a thick lipped jungle bunny, redneck, kaffir, sand-nigger or cheese-eating surrender monkey – is unrelated to their capacity for rational thought and their moral compass.”

“My own political party is infested with bog-trotting, green-nigger, coal-cracker, pot-licker potato-breath Fenians – we have a Fitzpatrick, an O’Brien, a Murphy and of course McGrath. Not to mention the thistle-arsed haggis-munching pipe-blowing porridge-wog libertarians such as Cresswell, Wilson and Howison.”

“However, my party does not regard accidents of birth as sufficient grounds to deprive someone of their liberty – or, for that matter, to provide them with unearned wealth stripped from others. So John Key needs to tell his ‘house niggers’, and Hone Harawira his ‘homeboys’, that claims to special ownership of water over and above those available to all New Zealanders, and based on racial ancestry, have about as much validity as me suggesting that a leprechaun caused the recent eruption of Mt Tongariro.”
